House boat in Kerala - Kumarakom, Allepey, Cochin trip?

Hi, My spouse and I are going to Kerala for five day 12/31/07-01/05/08. We are flying into Cochin from New Dlehi on 12/31 morning and flying out of Cochin to Bangalore early morning on 01/05/08 for our flight back to California. We are planning on renting car and hiring a driver to: show us around Cochin on 12/31 Drive us to Munnar from Cochin early morning on 01/01 and drive us around in Munnar Drive us to Thekkady from Munnar early morning on 01/02 Rent a house boat in Kumarakom 01/03 and do the Kumarakom , Allepey and Cochin trip in House boat Return to Cochin on 01/04 and spend the night there 01/05 get on the 6am flight to Bangalore Does this sound like a feasible plan? How can I rent a house boat? How much would it cost? Any other suggestions will be extremely helpful. Thank you very much in advance!

2. Hi Zoya, Your plans are good. But it will be great if you can avoid Thekkady trip and include more palces near by Moonar. Because there is nothing to view much in the Moonar Town. All the tourist destinations are scattered with in a radius of 20-50 KM from Moonar and also in different directions. So I suggest atleast two days for Moonar (Jan 1st and Jan 2nd). You come to Kumarakom on Jan 3rd and Rent a house boat by afternoon. You rent it for 24hrs. Go for the places near by Aleppy on 3rd evening and stay that night there. From Aleppy, they will take you to Cochin in house boat. So by Jan 4th morning, you can start from Aleppy to Cochin. You can try to make the return trip through Kumarakam (not sure abt that). You can reach back Cochin by 4th Afternoon. You will get house boats from 6000 INR to 15000 INR for 24hrs. It depends on the facilities (AC, FOOD, Places you will be visiting etc) You take the help of KTDC for house boats. If they are not able to help you, I will get some contact nos in Cochin /Aleppy. 3. I would suggest you to take two days in Munnar. Because the place is that good. Houseboat is really a wonderful experience... You must go for that, if you coming to Kerala. Just log on to www.lakerala.com and put your details, so that they will make ideal package for you...
