Bay River Houseboats

Do house boat owners pay property taxes? What if any is different about paying taxes for house boat owners?

I watched the house boat special on one of those home and garden channels and just started wondering about it. I am not asking for any important reason.

  1. They pay property taxes only if the state the boat is registered in assesses a property tax on a boat. It is a boat, so you pay a registration fee to have the boat registered/licensed and you pay a rental fee to have the boat moored at a boat dock somewhere. The owner of the boat dock will pay a real property tax.
  2. Real Estate property taxes are different than House Boat property taxes. House Boat will be filed as: rental property taxes because you're renting part of docking property. Interest payments from the house boat is filed the same as real estate taxes.
