  1. I think you might be better asking this in travel, asia pacific,Singapore section.
  2. Because the island might be nice, and on a good location. And house boats are usually on the water, not on the ground
  3. If you don't see house boats, you may find laws against it. Typhoons or Hurricanes are a big problem for boats, house boats especially.
  4. Hiya, Agent from Singapore here to get some good Karma... and by answering this question... think I've sunk myself in a way... (pardon the pun)... Still, fact is if you're thinking of saving money by living in a boat block... you've really lost me there. I do know of some people who "live on boats" in Singapore. However, do note the following... 1) Your boat will have to be docked which will cost you docking fees. (last I heard it's about 2k/month but you'll have to check it out). For that kind of price, you might as well do a rental. 2) As far as I know, you can't form "boat-blocks" in the Singapore waters and the only way around it is to shift over to international waters. That will mean being away from the protection (both the natural shelter and coast guard) of Singapore. Piracy is still very real and you will be open to the elements. 3) Singapore is still one of the busiest straits in Asia (70% of exports still comes through here) so marine traffic is pretty heavy. You may wish to look around for cheaper housing alternatives unless you really don't mind the kind of lifestyle I've mentioned as point 1 which I know some people have adopted over at RSBC. After all, if you're going to form a "boat-block" at some place with limited access, you might as well look at areas with cheaper housing like Woodlands, Ponggul and the likes where housing prices are still affordable.
