  1. This is perhaps not exactly what you are after, but it's along the right lines. http://outside.away.com/outside/destinations/2003traveler/2003traveler_sand_land_7.html
  2. When I think of houseboats, I think of inland waters, not the ocean. Instead of houseboats try searching for "bareboat charter carribbean." You will be amazed by the number of hits. Note that to "bareboat" charter you may need to provide proof of experience. If you have none, then search for a crewed charter. Have Fun
  3. I have lived on a 38 foot sailboat in the Caribbean for about 7 months each year for the past 6 years, and I don't remember ever seeing a houseboat. The Caribbean is NOT LAKE MEAD or LAKE POWELL or or any of the other lakes people like to rent houseboats on... If you have EVER been on a houseboat in ROUGH WATER... not some mirror smooth lake.. but REAL WATER.. BLUE WATER.. .. you would know that a houseboat is just a quick way to GET YOURSELF KILLED. If you want to rent a bareboat charter in the Caribbean you will have to demonstrate your ability to actually HANDLE A BOAT and it will cost you at LEAST $1000 PER WEEK just for a piece of junk and probably a lot more, in season.
  4. Hi there, I am not sure that you are really going to find a houseboat in the Caribbean for rent. The idea of floating on the open blue sea is tantalizing, but I am not certain that you will find anyone that really rents house boats. What you may want to do is find an island that you can use as a base and when you reach your destination you can fly to different islands fairly easily. What I would suggest is looking for a major hub and like Barbados for instance and then look at flying small planes to other islands. For example you can fly to Tobago, St. Lucia, Grenada, St. Vincent etc. all in about 30-45 min. The other thing is that you will find the individual islands have great deal of diversity, Barbados geographically is very small but there is a great deal to do and see. St. Lucia and Grenada have very different terrains in comparison to Barbados. In terms of accommodations, many of the islands offer everything from budget to Super Luxury accommodations. If you you are considering a long stay, why not think about a self catering apartment/condo that way you can cook your own food and save on your overall costs. Finally once you arrive in one of the islands you can definitely take boat tours, go out on sailing trips, participate in water sports etc. Hope this helps and if I do come across any info on houseboats I will post it here. I will include a few sites for reference on Barbados: Barbados - http://www.greatbarbados.com Acccommodations - http://www.greatbarbados.com/accommodations/ Info - http://www.greatbarbados.com/accommodations/barbados.php
